Day 2 of the WASZP EuroCup brought a rollercoaster of racing as sailors navigated super gusty and shifty offshore conditions. The racing was classic “snakes and ladders,” with huge gains and losses across the fleet, testing every competitor’s tactical awareness and boat-handling skills.
Spanish sailor Alberto Morales delivered a standout performance, showcasing his skills in tricky conditions and emerging as the only competitor to link it all together consistently. Hippolyte also put on a strong showing, but the massive lead gaps—measured in minutes in some races—highlighted the challenge of staying ahead in the variable breeze.
After three intense races, the wind dropped to nothing, forcing the fleet back to shore. With a storm forecasted and local predictions of strong wind at any moment, the decision to pack up proved wise. The anticipated breeze arrived later in the afternoon, with Barcelona issuing a weather warning as winds pummeled the city.
Despite the wild weather, the sailors and supporters enjoyed a fantastic evening, featuring a festive WASZP Christmas quiz and dinner. A highlight of the night was the EuroCup lottery draw, which rewarded Dani Cabre of Spain with a brand-new sail—a fitting prize for his dedication to the series by competing in three or more events this season.
Tomorrow promises an epic finale, with strong winds forecast from the start. Racing is set to begin at 9:00 AM, with up to five races planned to close out the series. Stay tuned for updates, results, and more action from the WASZP EuroCup.
