🚀 SOAR – The Sequel to Taking Flight Set to Launch June 5
A new chapter in the WASZP story takes flight with the premiere of SOAR, a powerful new documentary showcasing the rise of a global foiling generation.
In 2019, the acclaimed documentary Taking Flight captured the early momentum of the WASZP class — a vibrant, accessible, and game-changing foiling platform that reshaped the pathway in sailing. Now, the highly anticipated sequel SOAR is ready to make waves.
Launching globally on Thursday, June 5 at 8:30pm AEST, SOAR follows the journeys of a group of exceptional WASZP sailors who have grown with the class, moving from grassroots club racing to the pinnacle of the sport — including SailGP and the Youth and Women’s America’s Cup.
“This isn’t just a story about a boat. It’s a story about opportunity, a lifestyle and a generation of sailors who dared to dream,” said Marc Ablett, General Manager of WASZP. “SOAR shows how the WASZP class has become the launchpad for the future of our sport.”
The documentary features compelling stories of athletes who began their foiling journey with WASZP, showcasing how the class’ commitment to participation, diversity, and retention has helped bridge the gap between recreational sailing and elite competition.
The documentary follows the journey of a number of current and former WASZP sailors who are chasing their dream of pushing into professional sailing. These include Women’s America’s Cup winning driver Margherita Porro, Australian Youth America’s Cup driver Jack Ferguson, Athena Pathway Youth America’s Cup trimmers Hattie Rogers and Matt Beck, Artemis Youth America’s Cup driver Hanno Seiffert and Canadian SailGP sailor and Youth AC driver Galen Richardson.
From local boat parks to the bright lights of international regattas and professional sailing, SOAR captures the highs, the heartbreak, and the hunger that defines the foiling generation.
