Part: WZWPOQ – Wing Support Upper Quick Pin
Status: Information
Urgency: Low
Summary: The WASZP “Quick Pins” are a convenient way to quickly lock your front and rear wing tubes into the down position.
Quick Pins are especially useful if you store your WASZP Wings Up and sometimes find the straight pins are difficult to align/fit as part of rigging your boat.
Here’s a couple of different ways Quick Pins can be used to make setting up your boat more predictable:
- Have one or two Quick Pins with you whenever you rig. Start by putting in your straight pins as normal, and when you find one is proving difficult, reach for a Quick Pin before any frustration sets in.
- Have four Quick pins and use them every time.
Limitations
Because the pins do not run the full length they can potentially bend under very high load although this does not lead to failure and is usually easy to straighten.
What it is and how does it work?
A Quick Pin is made up of two parts, which insert from either end of a wing support (i.e. one from the back and one from the front) and then join on the outside of the wing support; being secured in place by a split ring.
It is recommended that the split ring is under the tramp which makes it unlikely to catch ropes.
Front Wing Support – The split ring should be aft of the support.
Rear Wing Support – The split ring should be in front of the support.
