A group of 15 young sailors took their first steps into foiling during a successful WASZP training and trial weekend hosted by KSSS (Royal Swedish Yacht Club).
The initiative brought together sailors aged 14–20 from different sailing backgrounds. Around half of the participants are currently sailing Optimists and are approaching the end of their time in the class, exploring their next pathway in the sport. The remaining sailors currently compete in the ILCA class and were keen to experience foiling firsthand.

The weekend was led by coaches Martin Wigfors and Hugo Järud, the latter bringing valuable experience from competing at the WASZP Games. Through a combination of onshore coaching and on-water sessions, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of foiling and the unique challenges and excitement that the WASZP offers.

The event was supported by KSSS, which has expressed its willingness to support the creation of a dedicated foiling group should sufficient interest continue to grow among the club’s sailors. The positive response from participants highlights the increasing appeal of foiling as a development pathway for young sailors.

The WASZP used during the weekend is provided to KSSS through the support of Artemis Racing, whose contribution has helped make opportunities like this available to the next generation of sailors.

Following the strong interest shown during the weekend, additional training and trial sessions are already being planned. Further opportunities are expected to be scheduled, most likely in August after the summer school holidays.

The weekend marks another encouraging step in introducing more young sailors to foiling and helping them discover new opportunities within the sport.
