New for 2026: Rolling Global Rankings Are Live!

A revamped RaceHub and continuous ranking model set to reshape competition across the world’s largest foiling dinghy class

The WASZP class has unveiled a major overhaul of its Global Rankings system for 2026, introducing a new Rolling Rankings format alongside a refreshed and enhanced RaceHub platform.

Designed to deliver greater legitimacy, fairness and competitive intensity, the updated system provides a clearer and more consistent reflection of athlete performance across the globe. With rankings now continuous across calendar years, the leaderboard will no longer reset annually — creating an always-live, season-spanning battle for position throughout the fleet.

A New Era: Rolling Rankings

From 2026 onward, the WASZP Global Rankings operate on a rolling basis, with only results from 2026 and beyond included. The system ensures that performances are measured over time rather than confined to a single season, offering a more accurate snapshot of who is leading the charge in the world’s fastest-growing dinghy foiling class.

To enable the transition, the rankings slate was wiped clean at the start of 2026 — for the final time. From here on, the standings will continue to roll.

Fair Recognition Across Rig Sizes

Reflecting the rapid rise in popularity of the 7.5m², 6.9m² and 5.8m² rigs, sailors are now ranked separately by rig size. The system extracts rig-specific results from every event — whether raced in mixed or separate fleets — ensuring fair and transparent recognition across divisions.

An adjusted rig multiplier further supports participation at the grassroots level. At Tier 4 events, the 7.5, 6.9 and 5.8 rigs receive a 1.38x points multiplier (subject to the 600-point cap), strengthening accessibility while maintaining competitive balance.

Counting Events and Tier Structure

Rankings are based on a sailor’s best six events, structured as follows:

1 × Tier 1 event

1 × Tier 2 event

2 × Tier 3 events

2 × Tier 4 events

Sailors may substitute any of these with events from a lower tier. For example, an athlete may count two Tier 2 events, two Tier 3 events and two Tier 4 events — or even six Tier 4 events — but may not exceed the maximum allocation for higher-tier regattas.

Event Tiers:

Tier 1: International WASZP Games

Tier 2: Continental Championships (Europe, Asia Pacific, Americas)

Tier 3: Major domestic events, including EuroCups and National Championships

Tier 4: All other WASZP events

Event Expiry

To ensure rankings remain current and competitive:

Tier 1: Replaced when the next International WASZP Games is held

Tier 2: Expire 18 months after the event

Tier 3 & 4: Expire 12 months after the event

How Points Are Calculated

Ranking points are awarded to every sailor competing in a WASZP event listed on RaceHub.

Points are calculated using the formula:

1 + (base − 1) × ((n − p) / (n − 1))

Where:

base = maximum points available for 1st place (tier dependent)

n = number of competitors in that rig size

p = finishing position

Base Points by Tier:

Tier 1: 1400 points

Tier 2: 1000 points

Tier 3: 600 points

Tier 4: Calculated by fleet size (maximum 600 points)

For Tier 4 events, base points are determined by fleet size using a logarithmic formula, ensuring appropriate weighting for participation levels. A small fleet rule applies where fewer than five starters compete in a rig; points are calculated as if five boats were present and allocated from last place.

RaceHub: The Engine Behind the Rankings

The upgraded RaceHub platform consolidates global WASZP activity in one place — from regattas and training camps to domestic association events. Managed by the WASZP International Class Association, RaceHub enables National Class Associations to create profiles, manage events, collect entry and membership fees, and integrate directly into the Global Rankings system.

As the 2026 European season gets underway, the refreshed RaceHub and Rolling Rankings system promise a tighter, more dynamic fight for leaderboard supremacy. With performances now measured continuously and fairly across rig sizes and event tiers, more sailors than ever will find themselves locked in the battle — up and down the scoreboard.

On any given day, somewhere in the world, a sailor is foiling fast and climbing the rankings. In 2026, that climb just became more meaningful.
